| In late March and early April, I spent a week at the Burnie Glacier Chalet in the Howson Range of West Central British Columbia. We had plenty of snow and some damn good skiing. Here are a few shots from that trip. From March 27-April 3, 2005 A group of five friends traveled to the remote Burnie Glacier Chalet in West Central British Columbia, not far from Smithers to do a little backcountry skiing. This hut was extremely nice for being in such a remote location. The cook, Melanie was there to provide all with incredible alpine cooking over a wood fired stove. The sauna soothed sore muscles at the end of the day. It snowed most every day of the trip and fresh powder was to be found every morning. Below are a few photos from this trip. Being in the "Coastal Range" of British Columbia, the weather was often cloudy and snowy. This made it difficult to access the nice looking terrain above treeline. Fortunately there was good skiing to be had below tree line and we did have a few spells of better weather. The peaks above the hut rose up between 2,000 and 6,000 feet above us. From the higher peaks, large glaciers poured down into the valley providing breathtaking backdrops. The snow was surprisingly good for being so near the coast. The powder was light and fun and for the most part the snow pack remained stable.
