Conditions

Ouray Other
Areas

1/23/11 All the sunny, South Facing stuff fell down. It probably won’t form up again until next season unless things get really cold again. The rest of the stuff (i.e. non-south facing) is in very good shape right now, esp. stuff by the skylight.

1/2/11 Road Warrior, Tourist Trap &
Killer Pillar are all in great shape and make for a nice advanced
day at the Skylight area. Gravity’s Rainbow & Kennedy’s Gully
are also in. 12/23/10 All the Skylight area climbs are in good
shape. There’s a few new moderate mixed climbs there, too. Steve
House has put up a new, 6 pitch M6 left of the Ribbon. 11/9/10 BBB
& the Ribbon are in. The former has more ice on it than in the
past several seasons. Also, there are a lot of other things coming
in up higher.

Skylight: Most of the roadside climbs are in. The Ribbon, Birdbrain and Talisman are not in. Conditions have not been favorable for these routes.
There is a fair amount of ice on Red Mountain Pass to check out as well, including Horsetail Falls, and Over the Rainbow.

Climbed BBB yesterday. A good mixed outing! There’s a teenie, weenie bit of ice in it. Crux on pitch 3, M6. Lots of M5, R!! Doubles to 3″ with a #4 camalot, med sized iron & 2-3 stubbies was used. Knee pads are nice. 2 raps into Ribbon (if safe), then v-thread to bolts. 6 raps.

Did BBB on 11/20. We soloed 1 1/2 pitchs, mellow rock. 3rd pitch pillar sublimated, detached, and dry but there. 4th pitch good, wet up top thru 5th pitch. Rock climbing to the top. Not great, not bad, have fun out there!!!

Went up to Kennedy’s Gully today – climbed a mixed variation to blue condition. We watched Kennedy’s disintegrate over the course of the day, it is almost completely gone. Blue Condition is not climbable as an ice route.
