BURNIE GLACIER CHALET 2005

There was much new snow on the face when we started on Sept. 10. After a vertical mile of calf burning ice climbing on the lower face, we bivied in a nice cave formed by a bergschrund at nearly 6,000 meters. It snowed lightly that night and numerous spindrift avalanches poured over the cave. By morning, there was a slight improvement in the weather and we continued up. NANGA PARBAT 2005

We have been overwhelmed by the local response to our ascent.  All the way out to the road-head locals stopped us and congratulated us.  In Tarshing (the road-head), about 200 schoolchildren turned out to greet us with bouquets of flowers, posters commemorating our climb, and flower lays.  The town had a ceremony and the mayor and school headmasters all made speeches.  Wild! 
It turns out the whole valley was watching our progress by seeing our headlamps each night.  And the summit day was so clear, many people watched us summit through binoculars. Read More

BURNIE GLACIER CHALET SKI TRIP

In late March and early April, I spent a week at the Burnie Glacier Chalet in the Howson Range of West Central British Columbia. We had plenty of snow and some damn good skiing. Here are a few shots from that trip.
