Nik grew up in Southwest Colorado sandwiched between the rugged San Juan Mountains and the vast canyon country of the Colorado Plateau. While going to school in Boulder, CO he picked up rock and ice climbing and started leading university trips into the mountains. He started out guiding on Mount Rainier and the North Cascades and spent many summers based in the PNW and on Denali. Nik realized early on the value of well rounded experience in both skill set and time spent in different mountain ranges. He has worked in the Tetons, Alaska Range, Wasatch, San Juans, the Utah and Nevada deserts, High Sierra, Wallowa Mountains of NE Oregon and South America. In spring of 2025 he passed his final AMGA exam and became a pinned IFMGA guide, a journey that took many years to afford between long guiding seasons and lots of “distractions” pursuing personal climbing projects and expeditions.
Today Nik is still a passionate climber, skier and all around adventurer, having spent time throughout the western US as well as Alaska and many places abroad. He loves sharing his passion for the mountains and desert with others and teaching them the skills to be safe and successful in the wilderness. He is based in Las Vegas but guides all over the Western US and abroad. When not guiding, climbing, or skiing Nik enjoys whitewater kayaking, packrafting adventures, and spending time with his wife Peggy and all the interesting characters he has met along the way.
