Bolivia offers exceptional high altitude mountaineering with relatively straightforward access to the Cordillera Real. Peaks such as Pequeno Alpamayo, Illimani, and Huayna Potosí, are classic, moderate glaciated peaks that are an excellent introduction to high altitude mountaineering in the Andes. Or consider more technical alpine climbing objectives tucked away in Bolivia’s Cordillera Real.
A custom Bolivia mountaineering expedition combines acclimatization climbs with more technical objectives, making the region an excellent choice for climbers looking to progress toward larger alpine expeditions. Additionally, Bolivia is a culturally rich country with beautiful scenery, vibrant markets, and important Aymara indigenous traditions, all of our Bolivia mountaineering expeditions combine climbing with learning more and immersion in the cultural heartbeat of the Andes.

Located in the Peruvian Andes, the Cordillera Blanca is one of the world's great destinations for technical alpine climbing. Glaciated peaks, steep snow and ice routes, and dramatic alpine ridges create an enormous range of objectives, from high altitude ascents on 5,000 meter peaks to challenging, technical routes. Custom expeditions can be built around classic peaks such as Alpamayo, Artesonraju, and Tocllaraju, or focused on less-traveled objectives in the Cordillera Blanca.
A custom Cordillera Blanca expedition typically begins in Huaraz, the region's mountaineering hub. After arriving, we'll use a series of acclimatization days and progressive objectives to prepare for the primary climb.
Acclimatization & Preparation: At altitude, preparation is part of the climbing. Rather than rushing directly toward a major summit, we build the expedition around progressive acclimatization and appropriate training objectives. Depending on your experience and the final objective, this might include easier glacier climbs, high-altitude trekking, or a progressively higher summit before moving onto a more technical peak, allowing your body time to adapt to increasing elevation.
This approach also gives us an opportunity to evaluate conditions and refine the objective. Weather, snowpack, glacier conditions, and route changes can all influence which peak or route makes the most sense.
Classic Cordillera Blanca Objectives: The range offers an exceptional variety of peaks and routes. Depending on your experience and goals, objectives can include Alpamayo, Artesonraju, Tocllaraju, Ranrapalca, Huascarán, and numerous less-traveled peaks and technical routes.
Some objectives are characterized by long glacier approaches and moderate snow and ice climbing, while others involve steep faces, exposed ridges, technical mixed climbing, or complex glacier travel. We select objectives based on your existing experience rather than simply choosing the highest or most famous summit.
Technical Alpine Climbing: For experienced climbers, the Cordillera Blanca provides opportunities to move beyond straightforward glacier climbs into more technical alpine terrain. Steep snow and ice, exposed ridgelines, seracs, and mixed climbing can all become part of the objective depending on the route and conditions.
A Flexible Expedition: A Cordillera Blanca expedition should never be treated as a fixed itinerary. High-altitude weather can change quickly, glaciers evolve, and route conditions can vary significantly from season to season. We build flexibility into the schedule so that objectives can be adjusted when conditions dictate.
The goal isn't simply to reach a predetermined summit at any cost. It's to identify the best available climbing objective, make good decisions throughout the expedition, and take advantage of the conditions when they align.
Plan a Custom Cordillera Blanca Expedition: Whether you're interested in a classic summit such as Alpamayo or Huascarán, a technical alpine route, or a less-traveled objective, we can build a Cordillera Blanca expedition around your experience and goals. Contact us to discuss your climbing background, preferred objectives, and the preparation required for your trip.

The Cordillera Huayhuash is one of the most spectacular and remote alpine ranges in the Peruvian Andes, offering experienced climbers a combination of high altitude peaks, glaciated terrain, technical ridges, and dramatic alpine scenery. Less developed than the neighboring Cordillera Blanca, Huayhuash provides an exceptional setting for climbers looking to venture deeper into the Andes.
Custom expeditions can be built around the range's classic peaks and technical objectives, with time for acclimatization and preparation before committing to more demanding climbs. The combination of high elevation, complex glacier travel, steep snow and ice, and remote approaches makes Huayhuash particularly well suited to climbers seeking a true alpine expedition rather than a straightforward summit ascent.
Because conditions in the Andes can change quickly, itineraries are designed to remain flexible. Your guide will evaluate weather, snow and ice conditions, acclimatization, and route viability throughout the expedition, adjusting objectives when necessary to make the most of the available conditions.
For experienced alpinists, the Cordillera Huayhuash offers an opportunity to climb in a spectacular and relatively wild corner of the Andes while developing the skills and judgment required for larger alpine objectives.

The Himalaya in Nepal offer an almost unmatched range of mountaineering objectives, from trekking peaks and classic alpine climbs to technical 6,000 - 8,000 meter peaks. Skyward Mountaineering offers private expeditions on the famous high altitude peaks, including Mount Everest, but we really excel at providing more unique guided mountaineering expeditions to remote areas of the Himalaya with technical climbing. For experienced climbers, the Nepal Himalaya provide an opportunity to combine high altitude expeditions with challenging technical alpine climbing in one of the world's most dramatic mountain environments.
A custom Nepal expedition can be designed around a specific summit, a technical route, or a progression of objectives. Depending on your experience, the trip may begin with trekking and acclimatization before moving steep snow, ice, and mixed climbing. The goal is to build an itinerary that allows adequate acclimatization while giving you the best opportunity to climb when weather and route conditions align.
Ama Dablam: One of Nepal's most iconic technical alpine peaks and a natural objective for experienced climbers looking to progress into serious Himalayan climbing. Rising to 22,349 feet (6,812 meters), the mountain's distinctive southwest ridge combines steep rock, snow, and ice with sustained exposure at altitude.
The standard route requires efficient movement with crampons and ice axe, while utilizing fixed lines and pitched climbing across exposed, technical terrain, and the ability to function effectively at high altitude. Ama Dablam is considerably more technical than many of Nepal's popular trekking peaks, making it a compelling objective for climbers seeking a genuine alpine climbing challenge without committing to an 8,000 meter expedition.
Technical Alpine Opportunities in Nepal: Nepal's climbing opportunities extend well beyond the most famous trekking paths and 8,000 meter peaks. For climbers interested in technical alpine climbing, the country offers a remarkable selection of objectives in the Khumbu, Rolwaling, Langtang, Manaslu, and Makalu regions.
Lobuche East can provide an accessible introduction to Himalayan climbing, while more experienced climbers can pursue technical routes and steeper objectives on peaks such as Lobuche West, Cholatse, and Kusum Kanguru. These mountains offer a progression toward more committing alpine terrain, with steep snow and ice, exposed ridges, mixed climbing, and complex route-finding.
Cholatse is particularly attractive to experienced alpinists. Its dramatic north face and west ridge provide significantly more technical climbing than a standard trekking peak ascent, with steep rock, snow, and mixed terrain in an exposed Himalayan setting.
For climbers looking for a more remote experience, the Rolwaling Valley offers access to less traveled peaks and technical objectives in a spectacular and isolated mountain environment. The region can provide a very different experience from the heavily traveled Khumbu, with greater emphasis on expedition logistics, self-sufficiency, and technical alpine ice and mixed climbing.
High Altitude Expedition Climbing: For climbers with the experience at higher elevations and looking to climb an 8,000 meter peak, Nepal also provides opportunities to pursue larger Himalayan objectives, with 8 of the 14 8,000 meter peaks within the country. These expeditions require extensive preparation, acclimatization, and logistical support, with success often depending on careful management of altitude, weather, route conditions, and recovery between climbing rotations. Our team has extensive experience leading expeditions in remote mountains around the world and with the demands of climbing at high altitude.
Rather than treating the summit as the only objective, we approach high altitude expeditions as a progression of decisions. Acclimatization schedules, route conditions, weather windows, and team performance all influence when and how we commit to the summit attempt. We do not offer open-enrollment climbing expeditions on 8,000 meter peaks and instead focus on offering these expeditions as private bookings, which gives the team the most amount of flexibility for success.
Build a Custom Nepal Expedition: The right Nepal mountaineering objective depends on your climbing experience, fitness, altitude history, goals, and schedule. Whether you're looking to climb a classic 6,000 meter peak, pursue a technical alpine route such as Ama Dablam or Cholatse, or develop toward a larger Himalayan expedition, we'll help identify an objective that matches your goals.
A custom expedition can also combine several objectives, allowing you to acclimatize progressively and use earlier climbs as preparation for a more demanding technical ascent.

The Indian Himalaya offer extraordinary climbing with a level of remoteness and exploration that is increasingly difficult to find elsewhere. From the granite and high peaks of the Garhwal to the arid mountains of Ladakh, India offers technical alpine objectives across a remarkably diverse landscape.
Custom expeditions can be developed around a specific peak or route, allowing experienced climbers to pursue technical objectives away from the more established climbing corridors of Nepal.

The Karakoram contains some of the most spectacular and technically demanding mountains on Earth. Pakistan offers opportunities ranging from remote trekking and acclimatization objectives to serious alpine climbs on 6,000 - 8,000 meter peaks.
A custom Karakoram expedition requires careful planning and substantial logistical support. For experienced climbers, however, the combination of massive granite walls, high altitude faces, and remote valleys makes Pakistan one of the world's premier destinations for ambitious alpine climbing.

Mount Kenya provides a unique opportunity to combine technical alpine rock climbing with an expedition into one of Africa's most remarkable mountain environments. The mountain's jagged spires, ice, snow, distinctive volcanic landscape, and local flora and fauna create objectives that are vastly different other alpine climbing destinations such as the Himalaya or Andes. At 17,057 feet (5,199 meters), Mount Kenya is Africa's second highest mountain, but its climbing is far more technical and remote than it’s Tanzanian neighbor, Mount Kilimanjaro.
Batian & Nelion: Batian is the true summit of Mount Kenya and the primary objective for technical climbers. The North Face Standard Route provides the most established line to the summit, combining moderate technical rock climbing with exposed scrambling and complex route-finding.
Nearby Nelion, slightly lower at 5,188 meters, offers its own collection of technical climbing routes. The two summits are connected by the Gates of the Mists, a short but exposed section of technical terrain. Climbers with the appropriate experience and conditions can potentially incorporate both summits into a more ambitious Mount Kenya climbing trip.
Acclimatization & Approach: A successful Mount Kenya expedition begins with proper acclimatization. The approach provides an opportunity to progressively gain elevation while moving through several distinct ecological zones, from forest and moorland into the high alpine environment surrounding the summit.
We build the itinerary to allow appropriate time for acclimatization and route preparation before committing to the technical climbing. Depending on your experience, this may include an acclimatization summit or easier climbing before attempting Batian or Nelion. It is also possible to combine an ascent of Mount Kilimanjaro in nearby Tanzania as an acclimatization ascent. This combination of climbing Africa’s two tallest peaks is a totally unique way to see two countries and a wider variety of incredible terrain.
Technical Rock at High Altitude: Mount Kenya's rock climbing is one of its defining characteristics. The rock is generally excellent, with exposed cracks, slabs, ridges, and chimneys providing a very different style of climbing from the snow and glacier climbing in the Himalaya or vertical granite of Patagonia.
Climbers should be comfortable moving efficiently over technical rock up to 5.9 and with exposed scrambling in the alpine.
When to Climb Mount Kenya: Mount Kenya's equatorial location creates two primary climbing seasons, centered around dry conditions from December - March and June - September.
Plan a Custom Mount Kenya Climbing Expedition: Whether your goal is Batian's North Face Standard Route, Nelion, or another objective on the mountain, Skyward Mountaineering can build a custom expedition around your experience and goals. We'll work with you to determine the appropriate route, acclimatization schedule, climbing objectives, and logistics for your alpine rock climbing trip to Kenya.
Customize an International Mountaineering Expedition
The best international expeditions often begin with a simple question: what do you want to climb?
If you have a specific peak, route, traverse, or mountain range in mind, we'll work with you to develop a realistic plan. Your climbing experience, fitness, preferred climbing style, and available schedule all influence the right objective. Some trips may focus on a single classic peak. Others might combine several climbs in one range, allowing the team to build fitness and acclimatization while pursuing progressively more challenging objectives. For experienced alpinists, we can also focus on developing first ascents in remote mountain ranges where conditions and logistics allow.
A Custom Approach to International Climbing
International expeditions is as much about preparation and decision making as it is about climbing. Altitude, weather, access, permits, local logistics, route conditions, and seasonal timing can all determine whether an expedition succeeds. Our approach is to build these considerations into the trip from the beginning. We work with you to choose an appropriate objective, establish a realistic itinerary, and develop a plan that leaves room to adapt when conditions change.
Once in the mountains, the goal remains the same: make good decisions, climb efficiently, and take advantage of the conditions when they align.
Why Climb with Skyward Mountaineering?
Skyward Mountaineering brings decades of experience in technical climbing, mountaineering, and expedition style travel to international objectives. Our background spans complex alpine terrain, glacier travel, technical rock and ice, ski mountaineering, and high altitude environments.
We believe the best expeditions are built around strong partnerships between the climber and guide. That means honest conversations about objectives, preparation, risk, conditions, and what it will take to succeed.
We're not interested in simply checking peaks off a list. We're interested in helping you pursue the right mountain, at the right time, in the right way.
Who Are These Expeditions For?
International alpine expeditions are designed for climbers with the skills and experience appropriate to the objective. Depending on the destination and route, trips may involve glacier travel, steep snow and ice, technical rock, mixed climbing, high altitude climbing, long approaches, and remote expedition logistics.
There is no single experience requirement for every expedition. A technical alpine climb in the European Alps may require a very different skill set from a remote Himalayan or Karakoram objective. We'll help assess your experience and identify objectives that are appropriate for your goals and current abilities.
