Ski the World’s Great Mountain Ranges

The Silvretta is one of the classic destinations for hut-to-hut ski touring in the Austrian Alps. High alpine passes, glaciated peaks, comfortable mountain huts, and excellent ski terrain make the region an ideal setting for a ski tour. Combining steep ski descents with ski mountaineering climbing objectives, including classic summits such as Piz Buin.
The Silvretta is particularly well suited to skiers newer to multi-day ski traverses and want to experience the rhythm of an Alpine ski tour: climbing from hut to hut, carrying a light overnight pack, and finishing each day with a long descent through spectacular mountain terrain.
-
The Hoch-Tirol is one of the premier ski adventures in the world, tracing the crest of the famed Tirolean Mountains. This tour is the longest ski traverse in the Alps with 60,600 ft of elevation gain and loss over 87 miles of skiing! In addition to breathtaking alpine terrain and steep skiing, the Hoch-Tirol involves ski mountaineering climbing ascents of classic summits in the Eastern Alps, such as Grossvenediger (12,053 ft) and the highest mountain in Austria, Grossglockner (12,460 ft).
We start in Hinterbichl in the Virgen Valley and ascend to the well-equipped Essener-Rohstocke Hut. Each night we stay at a different mountain hut, which serves us traditional Austrian cuisine like Schweinsbraten (awesome pork stew) or Spätzle and Apflestrudel (apple strudel).
The highlight and the grande finale of the Hoch-Tirol is climbing the highest mountain in Austria, an exposed, but not too difficult scramble along the summit ridge (PD, glacier 35°, UIAA II).
The Hoch-Tirol ski route is best suited for advanced skiers with experience on multi-day tours. The 6-day traverse is challenging and beautiful, without the crowds of the Haute Route.
-
Norway offers a completely different style of ski touring, combining expansive mountain landscapes, maritime snow conditions, and the possibility of skiing from high alpine terrain all the way toward the coast. Custom Norwegian ski trips can be designed around classic ski tours, steep descents, remote traverses, or ski mountaineering objectives.
With long spring days and dramatic coastal scenery, Norway is an exceptional destination for skiers who want to experience a very different mountain environment from the Alps or Rockies.
-
For skiers seeking true remoteness, Greenland offers the opportunity to combine ski touring with an expedition into one of the world's most isolated mountain environments. Trips can involve glacier travel, remote ski objectives, boat-supported access, and extended time away from established mountain infrastructure.
Greenland is not simply another ski destination. It is an expedition where weather, logistics, sea ice, transportation, and mountain conditions all play a role in determining the itinerary. These trips are best suited to experienced skiers who are comfortable with expedition-style travel and variable conditions.

Ski the high Andes during the Northern Hemisphere summer on a custom ski touring or ski mountaineering trip in Chile. The Chilean Andes offer a dramatic combination of high-altitude terrain, expansive snowfields, steep faces, and long descents, making Chile an exceptional destination for experienced skiers looking to explore beyond the traditional ski seasons.
Portillo is one of the region's most iconic destinations, with access to steep off-piste terrain, chutes, bowls, and backcountry lines in the mountains surrounding Laguna del Inca. For experienced skiers, the terrain extends well beyond the resort boundaries, with touring and hiking providing access to remote descents when snow and avalanche conditions are favorable.
A custom Chilean ski trip can combine lift-accessed terrain, backcountry touring, and more ambitious ski mountaineering objectives. We can build the itinerary around your experience and goals, whether you're looking for high-quality powder, long alpine descents, technical objectives, or simply an opportunity to ski the Andes during the North American summer.
Chile is particularly appealing for skiers who want a true change of scenery. Instead of familiar North American terrain, you'll travel through a high-altitude landscape of massive Andean peaks, exposed ridgelines, and expansive alpine valleys. The season generally falls during June through September, making Chile an ideal destination for extending your ski season into the Northern Hemisphere summer.
For experienced backcountry skiers and ski mountaineers, Chile offers the opportunity to combine exceptional skiing with the challenge and adventure of exploring a completely different mountain environment.

Patagonia combines enormous mountain landscapes, notoriously dynamic weather, and some of the world's most spectacular ski mountaineering objectives. Custom ski trips can be designed around the conditions and abilities of the group, with opportunities ranging from intermediate backcountry ski touring to more technical alpine objectives.
Patagonia demands flexibility. Weather can dictate where and when you ski, and successful trips often depend on being ready to change objectives when conditions shift. For experienced ski mountaineers, that uncertainty is part of what makes Patagonia such a compelling destination.
Build Your Own International Ski Tour
Not every great ski adventure fits into a predefined itinerary. If you have a particular mountain, range, ski descent, traverse, or expedition in mind, talk with us about building a custom trip.
We'll work with you to determine the appropriate destination, timing, objectives, logistics, and guide support based on your experience and goals. Custom trips can be arranged for individuals or private groups and can range from classic hut-based ski tours to remote ski mountaineering expeditions.
Why Travel with Skyward Mountaineering?
International ski touring requires more than strong skiing abilities. Successful trips depend on mountain sense, route selection, logistics, adaptability, and the ability to shift plans and reap different rewards when conditions don't change.
Skyward brings decades of experience in technical mountain environments to international ski expeditions. Our approach is deliberately customized, rather than forcing every group into the same itinerary, we build trips around the people, the mountains, and the conditions.
The objective is simple: ski exceptional terrain, travel through remarkable mountain ranges, and return home with an experience worth remembering.
Who Are These Trips For?
International ski touring is best suited to experienced backcountry skiers who are comfortable traveling efficiently in winter mountain environments. Depending on the destination, trips may involve glacier travel, avalanche terrain, high-altitude travel, technical ski descents, technical climbing with crampons and ice axe, and/or long days carrying an overnight pack.
Experience requirements vary significantly by destination. A relatively moderate hut-to-hut tour in the Alps may require a different skill set than a remote Greenland expedition or technical ski mountaineering objective in Patagonia.
We'll help determine which destination and itinerary are appropriate for your experience before the trip begins.
